This morning I went to meet my new friend Doris (but she has called herself Dorene and Dorothy) for tennis at the high school. I was, of course, early so I started practicing my serve. I was wearing my new black and grey patterned scort, grey top and my new tennies and soft, short cut tennis socks.
When she arrived, we just were rallying and rallying and rallying. We enjoyed this so much we continued on for about 1 ½ hours. It was so much fun. I’m getting back my swing, timing and position I should be in before swinging. We didn’t even play a game. This week it was all about practicing the rally. We had some conversation time in between all of this tennis and at the end of playing, we packed up our gear and investigated the beautiful Olympic sized swimming pool. There were some people in it early in the morning, but they had left and everything was all locked up.
We noticed a flier on the wall about some swimming aerobics classes and just swimming in the pool. We’re going to look into swimming there. It is so beautiful. This high school is more like a resort, not a school. So I asked Doris very seriously if we were really going to do this swimming thing because I didn’t have a bathing suit. All of my beautiful bathing suits are down in Southern California at my ranch. I still couldn’t use them because they are size 5s. I am now a, a, a,…size 10. (It took me some time to get that out).
So out the parking lot I went on my way to Big 5 Sporting Goods store and headed for the women’s bathing suit department. Mostly all of the bathing suits were those racing styles. Speedo, Nike. I wanted something more age appropriate and pretty. There was one two piece suite with green and blue swervey designs with little black dots in the swervy designs. It has black panties underneath. It was OK I thought and the $40 price tag, reduced from around $65 gave me sticker shock and I almost didn’t get it at the check out counter, but I took it. I didn’t try it on because I had just played two hours of tennis and was beat and sticky. I looked at it laid out on my bed and it looked small. I still have to try it on yet and I hope it fits. If it doesn’t, back it goes to the store and I’ll have to schlep down to Folsom again to check out the other sporting goods stores down there. There is a Walmart I can go up here, but don’t think I want to go there for a bathing suit.
So my new friend Doris and I have a standing date every week to meet at the high school and play tennis and get some good swimming in. Maybe we might even get better than some of those young chicks at the club.
Doris must be around 70 years old, on her second husband and has very bad vericos veins. But this lady can move. For someone of her age and her size (over weight maybe a little too much) I’m impressed. She said she just lost a lot of weight and she also has heart trouble and a whole bunch of other things. But like I said, you’d never believe she had all those problems and play like she does.
I came home, had some Greek yogurt, which was really rich, thick and flavored with honey. I never had yogurt like this before. It was like eating sour cream. Luckily I didn’t put any honey in it like I usually do with other brands because they’re too tart to eat plain. I added some grapes, nuts, wheat germ and sunflower seeds.
I couldn’t keep my eyes open after that, so I took a nap. After my nap, I showered and decided to start researching Nevada City and maybe any bike paths I can do before meeting Lisa and friends for lunch tomorrow. Sure enough, there’s a ten mile bike path which loops around in Grass Valley, so I’ll be sure to take my bike, water, and snacks and carry my smaller camera in my bike bag. They say the path is easy to moderate with only a couple small elevation gains. Whether or not I’ll finish the loop which should probably take me about an hour and a half since my average speed is seven miles per hour. Of course, I know I’ll have to stop several times so it may take more time than that, but I’ll take my time, enjoy the scenery and hopefully get some good photos with my little point and shoot camera. I’m taking my big, new, SLR camera with the telephoto for the parade.
Since it’s the Fourth of July, I think I should dress a little patriotic with some red shorts and my new red, white and blue top I bought for tennis.
Hope everybody has a nice Fourth of July.
